lets hope i survive the next five days of school

PLEATS

PLEATS

PLEATS by littlebrowndress

pleats should remind of me my horrid school uniform, but nope because how could i resist wearing a pleated skirt in the wind and watching it flutter.

delirium- lauren oliver: book review

okay wow, i didn't even notice the face in the background of that cover till now
anyway, you see i wasn't kidding about the book review thing.

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing.
They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable:
She falls in love.

i picked up delirium by lauren oliver two weeks or so back, might i add during my exam week, in between exams. i had heard some good things about it before, and had a couple of recommendations, and i sat down in the library ready to study for my chem exam, i think it was, and i found this beauty sitting in front of me.

i have always loved stories about dystopias and whatnot so i guess i was almost inclined to like this book. but don't be mistaken because this is not only a book about such corrupt society, it is also a love story. when i first heard of this book i put it right back down, because of the blurb. please don't be be put off by the blurb. i didn't like the blurb either. but lauren oliver writes in such beautiful ways, in which you really feel as if you're involved in this story. at the start of each chapter, there is a little snippet of 'official documents' and such from the world it is set in, and the way lauren oliver addresses this makes it so much more than a simple love story.

also, i really connected well with the themes. Lena, our main protagonist is turning 18, and she's about the get the cure. she finishes school, then suddenly there's this whole forbidden romance going on. but time is running out, and she has to take the cure. and i think that's the main thing that really drove the book: that you just wanted to know that in the end Lena will be happy and okay.

i have nothing but praise for this wonderful book, and the way it is written: some parts almost poetic (and i did end up with an entire word document of quotes from this book). this is the first (but definitely not the last) work of lauren oliver that i have read and it really surpassed all my expectations.
i would easily give this book a 4.5/5

not spoiling it for the rest of us, i just needed to say that this book will want to make you rip your heart out. since reading it, i have needed to stop wearing mascara because it just ends up down my face in a moment of deluded thoughts  just a just a warning (:

QUITE THE RACONTEUR

so i've been gone a while.
i know.

when i started this blog i wanted it to be different.

i used to run a fashion journalism blog, for those who don't know
and it got out of hand, which is why i started an entirely new blog, and only invited a select few to my new blog. its not that i didn't apprecciate everyone else, just that i needed to make sure it didn't get out of hand.

anyway, i've had time in between exams and whatnot to think, and i've concluded on what direction i want this blog to take. i started off with a fashion journalism blog, and it will always be a part of me, and therefore i will continue it. but i think i'd like to also incorporate other things as well, like book reviews, reflections, etc.
see, the problem with a full journalism blog is that it doesn't reflect me, and the sole goal of this blog is to reflect me, so that's what i'm trying to do.

MBFWA DAY THREE

so i try not to make promises, but i will get this blog all neat and tidy... soon.
basically i needed a new start and what better way than start a new blog! (sarcasm... just a little)
i've decided to start fresh, and that included not promoting this blog on anything at all. so no people i know, no old followers, no stalkers (kind of)
i want to know this was all my work.

though i do have exams real soon and will likely take a semi-hiatus

day three of MBFWA and sara phillips today
as i said yesterday, sara phillips hold a special place in my heart, as i have met the lovely sara

(1)

(2)

every season sara phillips just seems to come up with a concept such bright and exciting, and just different from the rest; i could easily say that there is simply just no one quite like sara phillips.this season it was influenced by ANIMALIA by GRAEME BASE which i am sure most people have read as a child (well people my age anyway)

also seem to recall that ALICE MCCALL was quite amazing today as well.

two more days left, sydney!

MBFWA DAY TWO

(x)

so day two of MBFWA is underway and while everyone in sydney is looking super picture perfect and wonderfully dressed, here i am snooping around in my regulation school uniform.
though i have recently discovered that if styled correctly, pieces of my uniform can in fact be worn quite well. the stiffness of the blouse collar is perfect, and my five-year-old jumper has turned a lovely almost-burgundy in the wash, but i cannot bear to replace it as despite not being regulation, its a much better colour.

still three more days of perfectly dressed people in sydney this week, and up tomorrow is sara phillips, who holds a place in my heart ever since i met her.
although i will be catching all the updates on my phone, most likely behind a desk at school, i am strangely looking forward to it.
